Consulting and Editing

I’ve had more consulting and other jobs than average, and much volunteer activity, but I’m not in the freelance business anymore; unless someone wants to make a donation to a local 501(c)(3) charity in lieu of payment, for example, or we make some other arrangement.  As a professional writer, publicist, college instructor from Connecticut, U.S.A. I’ve been involved in a wide variety of projects for more than 50 years, mostly in higher ed, but also in aerospace, architecture, a CofC, journalism. I specialized in news releases, newsletters, speakers bureaus, teaching, community service.

I am editing a soon to publish, amazing, colorful book on the Hartford Arts Renaissance of the 1970s (HAR), with artist Bob Gregson and Ed Stivender “The Robin Williams of Storytelling” (with an accompanying, bonus, free Creative Commons piece and a repository). I just finished a video “Clown Day 1975” that I created back then that relates to the HAR.  I’m also creating a free Creative Commons anthology/textbook on theory of knowledge (epistemology), critical thinking, and climate belief systems, with a customized Creative Commons repository.

This is all inspired by my scholarship over many years and 13 years of teaching. This includes as pilot faculty for a decade of a required course in college research, writing and rhetoric, the IDS 101 Cornerstone Seminar, at Charter Oak State College, founded in 1973.

Prior to teaching I created for clients alumni profiles booklets for college marketing, fundraising, networking as an “education entrepreneur.” I created several for Cambridge College, MA.  If anyone is interested I could scan one, or even teach someone how to make these! This was the last one, for Pacific Oaks College:

Also with a colleague from University of Hartford I once taught, on-site but with online LMS as needed, a quality improvement class in business writing, grammar, communications.   I started a publishing house, Emanations Press.  I have three degrees including an AA St Thomas Seminary, a  BA in Communication Arts, Fordham College, and  MA, English & American Literature, Trinity College (’91), with thesis on George Orwell’s art and polemic. I maintain a College Research Sharing group on LinkedIn, and am interested in new ways to facilitate research collaboration for the common good.

  1. “Disruptive Innovation”…very thought provoking. In looking up The Christensen Institute, I found the concept of blended learning very exciting. It is something new to me other than general discussions, and I can see what promise it holds for meaningful education. My youngest graduates high school in June and he would have really “sailed” with this.

A place for knowledge.
