The Writing Life

This is a place for discussion of writing in general, and your hopes and fears about writing.  A good place to start is by reading and commenting on George Orwell’s essay “Why I Write” available in public domain in Canada at Bibliowiki.  I wrote my MA Thesis at Trinity College, Hartford, CT, on Orwell and that is viewable on this site also.

    1. James, I didn’t know that but the roster of scientists who also have different levels of faith is quite fascinating. Take a look at the tab here on War and Peace where I’m starting a discussion of the book Evolutionary Faith. Some years ago I was in a workshop with Marcelo Gleiser, author of The Dancing Universe: From Creation Myths to the Big Bang. He does a good job in this book focusing on how science can reinforce spirituality and vice versa. Likewise in my bookshelf is my favorite The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos: Humanity and the New Story, by Brian Swimme. He’s with the Center for the Story of the Universe. Does the head of the Genome Project find Christianity inspiring for his/her work?

  1. You gave me a great reading list! I don’t know how much faith effected the Genome Project’s chief, yet he had to cling to something because of the enormity of the work. Fundamental Christianity would be something he leaned on,yet the project never reflected any leanings to it.
